Formats
- Single cans and bottles: mostly 5 mg or 10 mg THC each, in sodas, sparkling waters, and non-alcoholic mocktail-style flavors. Some also list CBG.
- Multi-serving bottles: larger bottles with more total THC, meant to be measured out over several servings. Read the label for the serving size.
- THC-free: CBD sparkling water with no THC.

Serving sizes and limits
Hemp THC drinks count toward the same 800 mg THC per-purchase limit as edibles and hemp edibles. Start with one serving, give it time, and don't mix with alcohol. Treat drinks like edibles: they can take a while to kick in. More in our FAQ.
Open containers don't belong in the car, and THC drinks can look like ordinary soda, so store them where kids can't reach.
How THC drinks work
- Onset
- About 20 minutes to 2 hours, varies by drink
- Peak
- Plan for up to 3 to 4 hours
- Lasts
- Plan for 6 to 12 hours
- Start with
- 2.5 to 5 mg THC, then wait at least 2 hours
OCM groups drinks with edibles. Some drinks start sooner, but plan for edible timing. Timing varies from person to person.
When people choose it
THC drinks are smoke-free and alcohol-free, and each can lists its milligrams, so a portion is easy to measure. You can sip slowly and stop. They're still edibles, so plan for a longer stretch and no driving.
Timing
Minnesota's Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) groups drinks with edibles: onset in 30 minutes to 2 hours, a peak at 3 to 4 hours, and 6 to 12 hours total. Some drinks do start sooner than a gummy. A 2024 review by McMaster University researchers found that drink users in one survey reported onset in about 20 minutes on average, and a lab study saw onset at 30 to 50 minutes. It varies a lot by product and person, so treat a drink like any other edible and give it time.
Hemp THC is still THC
Our drinks are hemp-derived, but the THC in them is still intoxicating. 5 mg of THC in a can is 5 mg of THC. They carry the same 21+ rule and the same warnings as cannabis products.
Dosing basics
OCM's starting point is 2.5 to 5 mg of THC, or less. Many of our cans are 5 mg or 10 mg, so half of a 10 mg can is 5 mg. For multi-serving bottles, read the serving size and measure it out. Wait at least 2 hours before deciding on more.
How it counts toward Minnesota limits
Hemp THC drinks count toward the same 800 mg THC per-purchase limit as cannabis edibles and hemp edibles combined. Minn. Stat. 342.27
Storage
THC drinks can look just like soda. Keep them in a spot kids can't reach, apart from regular drinks, and don't hand one out by mistake. Follow the label on refrigeration after opening. Open containers don't belong in the car; keep them sealed, in the trunk.
Practical tips
- Pour a half serving into a glass and put the rest away.
- Sip, then wait. Set a phone timer for 2 hours.
- Don't use a THC drink as a mixer with alcohol.
- Write down the brand and milligrams of the ones you try.
Safety
Don't drive the rest of the day or night after a THC drink. Don't mix it with alcohol, which raises impairment. Use it only in a private home or on private property where the owner allows it. Not in a vehicle, parked or moving, not in public places, and not in our parking lot.
If someone has used too much, or a child or pet gets into cannabis, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 (for pets, call your vet). In an emergency, call 911.
Questions about THC drinks
Do THC drinks kick in faster than gummies?
Some do. In small studies, drinks started in about 20 to 50 minutes, but it varies by product. Minnesota OCM uses the same 30 minutes to 2 hours as edibles, so wait at least 2 hours before having more.
How long does a THC drink last?
Plan on 6 to 12 hours, the same as edibles, with a peak around 3 to 4 hours. Don't drive.
Are hemp THC drinks still intoxicating?
Yes. Hemp-derived THC is THC. A 5 mg drink is 5 mg of THC, and it's 21+ only.
Can I mix a THC drink with alcohol?
We don't recommend it. Mixing cannabis with alcohol increases impairment, according to Minnesota OCM. Pick one.
How do THC drinks count toward the Minnesota limit?
They share one 800 mg THC limit per purchase with cannabis edibles and hemp edibles.
